Comrades and activists in South Wales will be saddened to hear of the death of Yusef Abdullahi, one of three men wrongly convicted of the murder of a Cardiff woman.

They became known as the Cardiff Three. I have many memories of Yusef and the campaign to free him, Tony Paris and Steven Miller.

Anyone who ever received a letter from Yusef while he was in prison will recall that he used to always put the stamp on upside down.

He later told me that his court case was “Regina v Yusef Abdullahi”, so as far as he was concerned, she was one of his opponents as she was one of those responsible for putting him in prison!

And now he is gone. This is a great shame particularly as some of the police involved in the original Cardiff Three case are due to stand trial in May, accused of perverting the course of justice.

Yusef would have given anyone who had the gall to cross examine him a hard time.
