Tenants, trade unionists and councillors will come together next week to organise a campaign against Tory plans that will see working class people thrown out of their homes.
The government wants to take away lifetime tenancies from council and housing association tenants, and restrict access to council housing.
Its plans to slash housing benefit will hit the poorest in society, as a recent report for the Scottish Executive reveals.
The various plans, including caps on the amount paid, will mean that “almost 55,000 households in Scotland [will] lose an average of £10 per week”. Some will lose more.
The report states that the attacks could lead to a rise in homelessness.
The Defend Council Housing campaign, trade unions, councils and other groups have called a “housing emergency” lobby of parliament on Tuesday of next week. This will defend working class people’s rights to a secure home and oppose the Tory cuts.
