Western leaders backed Mubarak

Middle Eastern “peace” envoy, Tony Blair:

“I don’t think the west should be the slightest bit embarrassed about working with Mubarak.”

He called Mubarak, “immensely courageous and a force for good”.

David Cameron:

“Britain has good relations with Egypt.

“We’ve worked together over many issues, not least the need to combat Islamic extremism.

“What we support is evolution, not revolution.”

Cameron described Mubarak as “a friend of Britain.”

US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton:

“I really consider president and Mrs Mubarak to be friends of my family. So I hope to see him often here in Egypt and in the United States.”

Silvio Berlusconi:

“I hope that in Egypt there can be a transition toward a more democratic system without a break from president Mubarak, who in the West, above all in the United States, is considered the wisest of men.”
