Lecturers at the University of West England (UWE) struck on Thursday of last week and plan to strike on Friday of this week.
They are fighting management plans to cut jobs and demote workers.
Workers won the support of students, who occupied the university cafe to discuss how to support the strikers.
Maeve Landman, the UCU branch equality officer and south west regional chair of the union, told Socialist Worker, “Management is trampling over collective agreements.
“They deleted more than 300 senior posts and people had to reapply for them—but only 240 remained.
“They want to abandon the role of principal lecturer altogether and all readers and professors had to justify their position or face being demoted.
“This is a programme of demotion.”
