Determined jobs fight at Rawmarsh Community School

Issue No. 2239

Teachers at Rawmarsh Community School in Rotherham have called off three days of strikes planned for this week.

Workers have taken nine days of strikes against job cuts.

They voted to temporarily suspend further strikes this term after their employer withdrew the final remaining compulsory redundancy, which had been due to come into effect in April.

But they say that they will strike again if the school tries to sack teachers in the future.

Ian Stevenson, regional secretary for the NUT Yorkshire midland region, said that “significant progress” had been made.

He added, “It remains the case however that a number of teachers’ jobs remain at risk for September.

“NUT members at the school remain determined to continue the fight against theses cuts. I have no doubt that if the school continues with its plans for redundancies in August then members will resume strikes after Easter.”
