Strike to fight Barnet 'easyCouncil' attack

Issue No. 2239

Some 150 Barnet council workers have voted to strike against the Tory council’s privatisation plans, dubbed “easyCouncil”.

The workers voted 77 percent for strikes on a majority turnout.

The ballot included key staff in cemeteries, planning, highways, land charges, registrars, environmental health, building control and trading standards.

The union is organising members’ meetings to discuss the next steps.

It comes after some 1,000 people marched in Barnet against council cuts and privatisation earlier this month.
