Tyrants across the world are brutally repressing the people they rule—and David Cameron is helping them.

Libya’s Colonel Gaddafi bombed protesters in Tripoli this week. Riot police in Bahrain have repeatedly machine-gunned demonstrators.

Most people responded with horror. But not Cameron—he flew to the Middle East to seal new deals between British arms companies and dictatorships.

Britain revoked a handful of export licences to Libya and Bahrain this week. But, this just highlighted Britain’s role in providing the regimes with the ammunition to kill.

Cameron made much of being the first foreign leader to visit Cairo’s Tahrir Square, at the heart of the revolution, since Hosni Mubarak’s fall.

But the real reason for his Middle Eastern trip was to facilitate sales of weapons—93 British companies were at the region’s largest arms fair, Idex, in the United Arab Emirates, this week.

Western leaders claim to support democracy. But they are trying to limit the freedom that millions are fighting for. Cameron isn’t on the side of ordinary people—here or anywhere else.

He props up a system where the rich get richer at our expense—and where rulers use any means necessary to defend their power.
