75,000 to strike

POSTAL WORKERS and council workers will strike together in London next Thursday.

They are fighting to win £4,000 London weighting to cover the soaring costs of living, travelling and working in the capital.

An independent advisory panel reporting to the Greater London Assembly said that the cost of living justified a 33 percent rise in London weighting. This would give post and council workers what they want. And let's remember that the Metropolitan Police enjoy £6,250 London weighting plus other perks.

A victory in London would be a huge boost to the battle for pay everywhere.

Workers across Britain need a pay rise, and the more any particular group fights, the greater the chance for all of us to break through. Everyone should support the strikes and in London should try to get to a picket line, march or rally next Thursday.

Among postal and council workers there needs to be the greatest possible unity on the picket lines and the streets. Strikers can gain confidence from each other and sense their combined strength.
