Police are not friends

Issue No. 2241

The police have played a contradictory role during the Wisconsin struggle. Much has been made of the police attending the occupation to support the protests.

But this spell was broken for many on Sunday as thousands of police massed outside asking protesters to leave while threatening arrests. While some teachers’ union representatives complied with police demands, hundreds of others stood their ground, forcing the police back.

Workers in struggle have seen that the police have served the ruling class’s interests. It will take the full force of the union movement to win this battle.
