Suspended teacher Sue Caldwell is due to attend a hearing on Friday of next week.
Sue’s employer charged her with gross misconduct after an allegation that she encouraged students to join protests against attacks on education.
She denies the charges.
Sue is an NUT union branch rep at Friern Barnet secondary school in Barnet, north London. She is also the president of Barnet NUT.
Many teachers and students see her suspension as an attempt to clamp down on union activists as well as an attack on students’ right to protest.
Messages of support have poured in from students and parents.
Sue could be dismissed from her job at the hearing.
And if she is found guilty of gross misconduct, the General Teaching Council could remove her licence to teach in the future.
