Tories ban soup kitchens... and critics

Issue No. 2241

The Tories have come up with a cruel and unusual way to get homeless people off the streets—starve them.

The Tory-run council in Westminster, central London, wants to bring in a new law that makes it an offence to give out food for free.

This would stop charities from running soup kitchens for homeless people.

The council also wants to make it an offence to sleep on the streets—at the same time as slashing £5 million of hostel funding.

This is social cleansing by one of the richest councils in Britain to allow rich people to escape the unsightly view of poor people—by any means necessary.

Meanwhile, the government wants to avoid any assessment of how its nasty policies are impacting on ordinary people—so it has slashed funding for 70 evaluation projects.

They include an evaluation of academy schools and a survey of disabled children’s services, as well as research into the government’s employment and business policies.

The cuts waste more than £715,000 that had already been spent on projects that are now cut short.
