Manchester protesters save their local pool

Issue No. 2241

Manchester council has retreated on plans to shut Levenshulme baths after daily protests to save it.

The council told campaigners on Monday that they would not only keep the baths open but even seek funding to refurbish them.

Levenshulme Labour councillor Julie Reed, who has been active in the campaign, told Socialist Worker, “Now we have to get behind building the 26 March protest.

“Our campaign shows that we can win, and we can bring this government down.”

Local campaign organiser Sue McPherson told Socialist Worker “What they decide in the council chamber we can undo on the street.”
