Manchester protest to save nurseries

Issue No. 2241

More than 300 parents and children joined a protest to save Manchester’s Sure Start nurseries last Saturday.

The council is cutting all funding to the centres, meaning they will likely close.

Emma, who works at Sure Start, was cheered when she said, “There is plenty of money—it’s in the pockets of the bankers and the rich.

“We do not need cuts at all. Sure Start makes such a difference.”

The protest was organised by the Manchester branch of the Unite union.
