Unofficial walkout at Saltend BP site

Issue No. 2242

Some 400 construction workers went on unofficial strike at the BP Saltend plant on Wednesday of last week.

They blockaded the BP biofuel site over redundancies.

The strikers were made up of scaffolders, electricians, welders and mechanical engineers.

Workers say the contractor Redhall Engineering is not sticking to a national agreement on redundancies.

The company should be offering specific redundancy terms to individuals.
