Anti-racists prevented the English Defence League (EDL) from marching through Rochdale, Greater Manchester, last Saturday.

Activists from Unite Against Fascism (UAF) and the Muslim Defence League organised a 250-strong counter-protest into the town centre. They were joined by trade unionists and community activists.

Police had to surround around 50 local EDL supporters for their own protection. A further 500 EDL supporters were bused in from across Yorkshire and beyond.

But, unable to march, the racist thugs were instead herded back onto their coaches.
