“What is being done to Bradley Manning is ridiculous and counterproductive and stupid on the part of the department of defence.”
These are the words, not of a human rights campaigner, but of PJ Crowley, the assistant secretary of state for public affairs and Hillary Clinton’s chief spokesperson.
Bradley Manning is a US soldier being held and tortured in a maximum security prison. He is accused of leaking military documents to the Wikileaks website.
Crowley resigned over the comments—but has not retracted them.
The US wants to torture Manning into making a confession that will incriminate Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.
