Strike in Barnet

Issue No. 2243

Key regulatory services workers at Barnet council are to take industrial action from this Wednesday in a bid to stop its “easyCouncil” privatisation plan.

Barnet wants to slash its workforce of 3,500 to a few hundred and outsource.

The Unison union is demanding workers remain directly employed by the council.

The action will see some 140 workers in departments including planning, licensing and highways stop answering calls, attending meetings or doing other support work.

The level of support for the action across the council shows there is the potential for escalation.
