Glasgow social workers strike ballot

Issue No. 2243

Social workers at Glasgow City Council are balloting for strikes over a threat to privatise them. The 34 asylum support service workers are threatened with transfer to contractor YPeople.

Some 94 percent of them are members of the Unison union, and they have a combined 500 years total service.

The workers’ jobs, pensions and employment conditions are threatened.

YPeople has said that immediate layoffs after the transfer are “a likelihood”.
