Equality and Human Rights Commission strike ballot over outsourcing

Issue No. 2244

PCS union members at the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) were to begin a strike ballot this week against plans to cut jobs by over half, close regional offices and outsource key services.

Most at risk will be the lower paid posts such as regional advisers, helpline workers and caseworkers.

The EHRC board of commissioners is not opposing the government’s 60 percent budget cut, accepting the Tory dogma that these essential advice services can be delivered instead by the “big society”.

But at angry site meetings last month, PCS members agreed unanimously to fight the cuts. The ballot closes on 8 April.
