David Cameron says he wants to support the Libyan rebels. But he has sanctioned arms sales to Gaddafi’s regime. In September last year Cameron authorised sales worth £3.2 million to Gaddafi.
While thousands took part in uprisings, Cameron swanned about selling arms to the dictators trying to crush them.
Labour and Tory governments have done the same thing year on year.
The government did not refuse a single arms export licence request from Libya in 2010.
The UK Foreign Office list of arms exports from Britain to Libya includes:
l2005: sale of £29.5 million worth of military transport aircraft
l2005-2007: sale of armoured vehicles and personnel carriers, night vision goggles and water cannon
l2009-2010: sale of sniper rifles, bombing computers, military aircraft ground equipment, wall and door breaching projectile launchers, crowd control ammunition, small arms ammunition and tear gas/irritant ammunition
The British government’s only interest in who rules Libya is based on what is good for British business.
And the people who trade in blood are rotten to the core.
