Hackney school walkout over bullying

Issue No. 2246

Teachers at a primary school in Hackney walked out for two days on 22 and 23 March against bullying.

The NUT members at Whitmore primary school say that more than 30 percent of teachers are considering leaving because their workplace has become too stressful.

Mick Regan, branch secretary of Hackney NUT, said, “The teachers feel like they have no control over lessons, they have no

work-life balance and that they’re being constantly observed.”

Mark Lushington from Hackney NUT said the school was operating on a “Stalinist model”.

He added that more strikes could follow.
