Northern Drift & Joe Lives!

Issue No. 2247

Alex Glasgow was a left wing singer-songwriter from Gateshead, who sang the theme to the BBC TV series When The Boat Comes In.

For Socialist Worker readers he is probably best known for the witty folk songs “The Socialist ABC” and “As Soon as this Pub Closes”.

Two of his rarer albums from the 1970s have just been remastered and issued on CD as a double album.

Joe Lives! is a recording of a one man play Alex wrote about Victorian Newcastle songwriter Joe Wilson, featuring John Woodvine.

Northern Drift on the other hand is a live recording of the show Alex put on with Henry Livings the Edinburgh Festival fringe in 1978. It features political songs and monologues.
