This Danish documentary is about the Armadillo “forward operating base” in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, shared by Danish and British troops.
It was filmed over six months in 2009, and caused controversy in Denmark when it was shown there.
The film shocked audiences by showing the soldiers’ elation after they killed their opponents—and its apparent suggestion that they executed wounded Taliban has led to a government inquiry in Denmark.
The film has been praised for not concentrating solely on the Danish troops but showing the experience of the local Afghan farmers as well.
Pederson has said, “Many of the Afghans I have spoken see the international forces as people who’ve just landed from the moon.”
But it has also been criticised for being edited like a Hollywood war film to build tension.
