Minimum wage ‘rise’ is pennies

Issue No. 2247

The Tories added a miserly 15p to the minimum wage this week—and it’s even worse for young people.

The new rate will be £6.08 per hour for adults, which is low. But for 18 to 20 year olds the rise will be even less—up 6p to £4.98.

And 16 to 17 year olds will get just 4p extra on their incredibly low minimum wage of £3.68.

All are far below the RPI measure of inflation, which is 5.3 percent. The changes come into effect in October.
