Ballot for strikes at Transport for Greater Manchester

Issue No. 2248

Transport workers in Manchester are to ballot for strikes against compulsory redundancies. One in seven of the Unison members at Transport for Greater Manchester—formerly GMPTE—face losing their jobs.

Unison branch secretary Tony Wilson said, “Not only is the process needlessly making people compulsorily redundant, it is causing widespread concern and lack of morale.”

Transport for Greater Manchester currently has eight directors—and its chief executive officer is a partner at fat cat accountancy firm Ernst and Young.
