Hundreds of council workers in Dundee walked out unofficially for the day on Thursday of last week after management reneged on an agreement.
The workers included the council’s joiners, painters, plumbers and scaffolders.
Unions and management had an agreement that temporary workers would be made permanent after two years in employment. Bosses want to increase this to four years.
The workers, in the Unite, Unison and Ucatt unions, held a 300-strong meeting at which they voted to walk out against these plans.
Steve Geekie, the convenor of the joint shop stewards committee, told Socialist Worker, “We gave bosses a bloody nose.”
