Babar Ahmad: I thought police would kill me

Issue No. 2251

Babar Ahmad has told a court how Metropolitan Police officers in the TSG beat him so badly that he thought he was going to die.

Babar has been in jail since 2004 even though he has not been charged with any crime in Britain.

The jury at Southwark crown court heard that during the prolonged attack, one officer straddled Babar and said, “You will remember this day for the rest of your life, you fucking bastard.”

Babar said, “He kept squeezing [my neck] to the point where I thought ‘This guy is going to kill me. He wants to kill me. I am going to die in this van’.”

Babar was released without charge after the dawn raid in 2003—but then arrested again.

Police constables Mark Jones, Roderick James-Bowen and Nigel Cowley and Detective Constable John Donohue deny assault. The hearing continues.
