Tenants from many towns and cities discussed the next steps in their fight at a Defend Council Housing (DCH) national meeting in London last Saturday.
Eileen Short, DCH chair, introduced the debate, saying, “We are facing a systematic attack on tenants’ rights and conditions. The government is proposing to take away secure tenancies from new tenants. It is also making cuts to housing benefits.
There was also discussion of the government’s “self-financing” reform of council housing. Activists also held a Housing Emergency planning meeting in parliament on Tuesday.
