Striking back to stop academy schools

Issue No. 2251

Teachers in four schools were set to strike this week against plans to turn their schools into academies.

NUT and NASUWT union members at Shorefields school in Liverpool were set to strike on Wednesday of this week. NUT members previously struck at the school at the end of March and won widespread support from parents and students.

Both unions also plan to strike at Crompton House school in Oldham on Thursday of this week.

Coventry was set to see coordinated strikes against academies in two schools—Tile Hill Wood School and Woodlands School—on Friday. At Tile Hill Wood School, both NUT and NASUWT members were set to strike, and NUT members at Woodlands School.

This follows fantastically supported strikes by NUT members at Tile Hill Wood School in March this year, where some 60 strikers joined picket lines.

Send messages of support to secretary@liverpool.nut.org.uk and to secretary@oldham.nut.org.uk and e.higham@crompton-house.oldham.sch.uk
