UCU ballots to defend jobs and pay at South Tyneside College

Issue No. 2251

UCU union members are balloting for strikes at South Tyneside College over jobs cuts and pay.

They are fighting plans that would put 200 workers at risk of redundancy and cut up to £11,000 from some lecturers’ annual pay. The cuts would be the equivalent to 62 and a half full time posts.

UCU rep Jon Bryan said that the union “will not accept compulsory redundancies and compulsory downgradings and sit idly by while the jobs and pay of our members are attacked”.

The ballot result is due on Monday of next week.
