Striking back against academies

Teachers in four schools struck against academies last week.

Teachers at two Coventry schools struck on Friday of last week against plans to turn their schools into academies. NUT and NASUWT union members struck at Tile Hill Wood School and NUT members at Woodlands School.

Teachers in both unions also struck at Shorefields school in Liverpool on Wednesday of last week and at Crompton House school in Oldham on Thursday of last week.

School students walked out at Shorefields school in protest at the academy plans. Members of four unions, the NUT, NASUWT, ATL and Unison, were set to strike at Bowland High School in Lancashire on Friday of this week.
