Gateshead against the Nazis

by Tony Dowling
Issue No. 1903

IN A magnificent response to the news that the Nazi BNP are to stand for election in 17 of the 22 council wards in Gateshead, anti-Nazi campaigners hit the streets en masse over the last week. Teams of campaigners have been out leafleting local estates and have organised campaigning stalls in Gateshead town centre on busy Saturday afternoons.

The campaigners included members of the Labour Party, the Liberal Democrats and Respect, as well as school students and many trade unionists. Thousands of Unite Against Fascism leaflets and special leaflets produced by Unison and designed to appeal especially to young people and clubbers have been delivered across Gateshead.

Campaigners intend to increase the momentum of the battle against the BNP in the weeks running up to the election. Anyone wishing to join the campaign should phone the Gateshead Unison office on 0191 477 6638.
