EHRC workers hold second walkout

Issue No. 2252

Hundreds of workers at the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) held a second one‑hour walkout against cuts on Wednesday of last week.

They picketed offices in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow as they struck against 68 percent cuts to budgets and a 66 percent cut to staffing.

One London striker said, “It has been a great turnout for the strikes.

“And we have won support from other trade unionists. This has boosted people for the fight.”

Zita Holbourne, of the Black Activists Rising Against Cuts (BARAC) group, said, “If the EHRC is cut then enforcement work can’t be done.

“This sends a clear message to employers that they can do what they want.”

Union members are now discussing escalating for future action.
