Zimbabwe: Solidarity with treason trialists

Issue No. 2252

Six socialists in Zimbabwe still face a possible death penalty for treason.

They were arrested in February while watching a video of the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia.

The defendants have been told that their case will continue in a magistrate’s court on 18 July—despite the fact that it has no jurisdiction over treason.

One of the six, Munyaradzi Gwisai, praised the international solidarity campaign.

He said, “This spirit of international solidarity will break the resolve and stubbornness of every dictator on this continent.”
