University of Nottingham lecturer Dr Rod Thornton has been suspended after writing a report criticising management.
The report was on the treatment of Rizwaan Sabir, who was suspended following his arrest for downloading the Al Qaida Handbook as part of his studies. Hicham Yezza, a university worker, was also arrested—he had helped Sabir with his PhD. The book is available from the US Department of Justice website and the university’s library. The men were never charged. Staff and students have protested in Thornton’s support.
