Cleaners not guilty of terror

Issue No. 2252

Six Westminster street cleaners arrested on terrorism charges during the visit of Pope Benedict to Britain last September have been cleared.

They were vilified in the press, their homes raided at dawn and their lives made a misery.

The men always claimed they were innocent.

But they won’t be receiving an apology—QC David Anderson described the cops as having acted “lawfully and appropriately”. The men are planning to sue.
