All unions out for Bowland school anti-academy strike

by Maggie Smith
Issue No. 2253

More than 50 strikers picketed Bowland Community High School in Lancashire on Friday of last week as they took action against it becoming an academy.

The strike saw members of the Nasuwt, NUT, ATL and Unison unions walk out.

John Girdley, from the national executive of Nasuwt, said, “If all schools made a stand like this we could stop this academies programme in its tracks.

“The public should be up in arms about academies. It’s exactly the same issue as health privatisation.”
