Esol protests planned

Campaigners to defend English for Speakers of Other Languages (Esol) are preparing for two mass protests in London later this month.

The actions, dubbed “Esolfests”, will take place on Sunday 19 June.

The east London Esolfest will assemble at both Hackney town hall and Stepney Green Park at 12.30pm for a march to Bethnal Green Gardens.

In south London, activists will assemble at Brixton’s Windrush Square at 12 noon and march to Kennington Park.


Two day strike at Tile Hill Wood school

Teachers at Tile Hill Wood school in Coventry in the NUT and NASUWT unions began a two-day strike on Tuesday of this week.

NUT members at nearby Woodlands school were set to strike on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Both strikes are part of workers’ continuing battle to stop their schools from being turned into privately-run academies.

Tile Hill Wood school is set to become an academy on

1 July and Woodlands school on 1 August.

Strike suspended at Selwyn primary school

Members of the teachers’ NUT union at Selwyn primary school in Waltham Forest, east London, have suspended strikes planned for this week after governors agreed to talks.
