Support grows for trade union rally

Issue No. 1903

MORE TRANSPORT has been booked now for the pensions march called by the TUC and the National Pensioners Convention in London on 19 June. Coaches are now coming from over 30 cities and towns across Britain. The march will see today's trade unionists join with pensioners to show their anger over an issue which is becoming more important by the day.

The key areas where workers and existing pensioners have been robbed by their bosses and the government include:

  • The government's plan to make millions of public sector employees work another five years before they are eligible to claim their pension.

Those badly hit could include thousands of civil servants, teachers, health service workers and local government workers.

  • The closure of the "final salary" pension schemes. The closure of the schemes means that workers who believed they had a pension linked to their earnings now find that it will instead depend on stockmarket gambling.

  • The poverty level of the basic state pension.

  • The march is on Saturday 19 June, assembling 12 noon, Embankment, London.
