Council workers in Doncaster have voted for strikes—and are set to join the mass walkout on 30 June.
Two thirds of the Unison union members have voted for strikes at part of a fight to stop hundreds of job cuts at the council, the union announced today.
The 66 percent yes vote means the 5,000 Doncaster council workers can walk out on 30 June—together with hundreds of thousands of teachers in the NUT and ATL unions and civil service workers in the PCS union.
The coordinated action could see swathes of Doncaster shut for the day.
Unison branch secretary Jim Board told Socialist Worker, “Coordination with other unions is going to mean widespread disruption across public services and schools in Doncaster.
“This is a massive opportunity to build unity—and it will be a launchpad for further action and escalation.”
