Birthday bash for NHS

Issue No. 2257

The Unite union is calling on health workers and activists across Britain to join a day of celebration of the NHS on its 63rd birthday—Tuesday 5 July.

The government wants to push its health service reform bill through parliament before the summer recess.

The Tories hope that their recent retreat over parts of the bill will fool the public into thinking that it no longer poses a threat.

But the union rightly insists that the danger of privatisation by stealth remains.

Unite is calling on workers in all health unions to join evening rallies and marches, with activists planning a demonstration in central London. The union is also urging local Keep Our NHS Public and pensioners’ groups to come and join the action.
