Cabin crew ballot closes at British Airways

Issue No. 2257

A ballot of cabin crew at British Airways (BA) is coming to a close. Crew have been voting on a deal agreed between their Unite union and BA bosses in a long‑running dispute over jobs, pay, conditions and union rights.

As Socialist Worker has highlighted, the latest deal accepts attacks on conditions. It enshrines “mixed fleet”—a separate crew employed on worse contracts.

It doesn’t give solid guarantees over jobs or conditions. And it allows BA to impose future changes “subject to commercial need”.

Cabin crew have shown fantastic resilience taking 22 days of well-supported and effective strikes.

They have voted time and again by huge majorities for more strikes to force BA to retreat. Hundreds of thousands of public sector workers are set to strike any strike by BA crew would not be alone. The ballot closes on Wednesday of this week.
