Birmingham council workers may strike too

Issue No. 2257

Some 10,000 workers at Birmingham City Council, Britain’s biggest council, have voted by 76  percent for strikes.

Some workers face pay cuts of £4,500 a year. The council plans to tear up their contracts and scrap allowances.

The workers’ Unison branch committee was discussing striking on 30 June.

They must go ahead. Together with other strikers, council workers could bring Birmingham to a standstill on 30 June—and inspire other workers to fight.
