Bahraini activists jailed after protests

Issue No. 2258

Some 21 Bahraini activists were given lengthy sentences last week, accused of plots to topple the regime.

Hundreds of people have been sacked, imprisoned, tortured and harassed for taking part in protests.

Eight of those on trial received life terms, while another eight got prison sentences of 15 years.

Seven of those sentenced were absent from court and are thought to be in Britain.

Britain, the US and Saudi Arabia back Bahrain’s brutal regime.

It killed hundreds of protesters in April and May this year as revolts against dictatorships swept the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf states.
