Farhana Haque from Oxfordshire: 'Marxism has been inspiring' (Pic: Socialist Worker)

Farhana Haque, Oxfordshire

‘This is the first time I’ve been to Marxism. I decided to come after going to a march against disability cuts.

It was inspiring to see that so many people opposed the cuts, and I wanted to come to meet more people like that.

I really enjoyed the meeting on the Spirit Level book, which talked about inequality. And the meeting on crisis, austerity and resistance got me revved up. It’s been inspiring.’

Manolis Spathis, member of the Greek SWP

‘Marxism is a meeting point for socialists from all over the world. It’s a chance to listen to people with different experiences, and tell them your own.

It’s also good to meet the workers who struck in Britain and the students who protested last year.

There are people here from different left wing traditions to the SWP, trade unions and different movements. This shows the influence the party has.’

Zakir, college student

‘This is totally different to what I expected. There are so many people—I thought it would just be a few people in classrooms.

All the meetings I’ve been to have been full. I’ve asked some questions and had them answered—it’s been really worth coming.

There are so many different topics covered.

I never thought Marxism would have something to say about art—but I went to the meeting and it was very interesting.

I hope I’ll be able to come back next year.’
