Troops out of Iraq, Blair out of office

Issue No. 1902

THE US and British led occupation of Iraq is a disaster. It is a disaster for the Iraqis, scores of whom are dying every day at the hands of occupying troops or falling prey to hunger and disease. Every day there are more killings, more torture, more horror. The scale of the misery inflicted on Iraq has shocked even those who supported the invasion.

All the lies used to justify the war have fallen apart. Many of the pro-war newspaper commentators have been forced to admit they were wrong to back the war. Blair insists he will go on and on. The Tories' message is practically identical to New Labour's. And the Liberal Democrats, who supported the war when it was actually going on, refuse to call for the immediate withdrawal of the troops. Respect: The Unity Coalition is proud to put the call for troops out of Iraq now at the centre of its campaign.

Respect is headed by leading figures in the anti-war movement, including George Galloway MP and Stop the War Coalition convenor Lindsey German. Everyone who marched against the war, everyone who opposes the bloody occupation, should back Respect in the European elections and the London Assembly elections on 10 June.
