Third of universities to charge £9,000

Issue No. 2260

More than a third of English universities have been granted permission to charge fees of £9,000 as standard from next year, it was revealed on Tuesday.

Students starting degree courses from next year face average tuition fees of almost £8,500.

And overall, almost three fifths of universities will charge the maximum £9,000 for at least one of their undergraduate courses.

Students and lecturers have campaigned against the plans, which now look set to go through.
