'Big society' youth workers in ballot

Issue No. 2261

Youth workers for Oxfordshire County Council—David Cameron’s home turf—began balloting this week for strikes over job cuts and changes to terms and conditions.

The Unite union members are angry that the Tory-led council plans to close 26 youth centres and two detached youth work teams, hitting 80 jobs.

The Base 33 youth centre, which Cameron has hailed as the “big society” in action, is at risk because of council cuts.
