British Sugar workers ballot for strikes

Issue No. 2261

Some 250 British Sugar workers are balloting for strikes after rejecting a 3.5 percent pay offer.

The Unite union members at four plants—Wissingham, near King’s Lynn; Cantley, near Great Yarmouth; Bury St Edmunds; and Newark in Nottinghamshire—are demanding a pay rise equal to the RPI rate of inflation, which is 5 percent.

Unite also wants an extra 0.5 percent for the year to April 2012.
