No to 'last of the adult education'

Issue No. 2262

Holmfirth in West Yorkshire, the home of TV show Last of the Summer Wine, has seen an energetic campaign to save its adult education centre.

Disgracefully the management of Kirklees College, which controls the building and the quarters, announced a few weeks ago that the centre would close at the end of the summer term.

But two angry public consultation meetings of 120 and 150 people respectively, and a petition with 2,450 signatures, has forced the management to halt the closure.

They are now discussing possible plans to keep it open and restore a five-day-a-week service.
